Salt Theme Version 1.1.0

A new version of Salt Theme is out now. There are a few pretty cool features included in this update:

  • Social icons to link to your social pages
  • Use an image in your blog header
  • Change the color of the blog title text
Customizer Options
New Customizer Options

All of these updates can be controlled in the WordPress Customizer, so after you have updated to Salt 1.1.0 you will see some new options (just like on the right here).

Customize Your Blog Header

You can pretty much upload any header image, but the best ones should be around 1300 × 240 pixels.

Social Media Links

For the social media, Salt Theme currently supports the following social media accounts:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Youtube
  • Linkedin
  • Weixin
  • Weibo

So open the Customizer > Click on “Social” > Add links to your Facebook page or Twitter account under “Social Links”

Add Your Social Links
Add Your Social Links

Once your links have been added, you can change the look & feel of the social links, including:

  • The position: At the top or bottom of your blog, stuck to the right or left and next to the menu bar.
  • Change the shape – square, circle or without a backgroud
  • Use black, white or color icons
  • And change the size of the icons.

Here are some examples:

With all these options you should be able to customize your blog and make it more unique to your own style.

In the upcoming versions I will be adding more features to allow you to customize your blog!

  1. I love the cleanness and functionality of your Salt theme, but I seem to have a bug/quirk with the menu in the top location. It works fine when in the WP customization mode. But as soon as I close the customization sidebar, the menu disappears (and thus the mobile version of the top menu ceases to function as well).

The menu data itself exists… I have put it in the right sidebar for now, and as noted, it shows up when the customization sidebar is open.

BTW, I am now using a child theme, only because I wanted to display the full vs excerpt posts on the home page, and I wanted to reduce the margins of the header. But this menu issue exists whether I use the child theme or not.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    1. Hi Braxton, sorry for the late respond and thank you for informing us this problem, the current resolution is to go to Customize – General – Layout and change it to “Boxed” save it and change it back to “Wide” then save it again. We will fix this problem in the next version. Cheers!

  2. Hello,

I am using the salt theme and it is great, however, the social icons mentioned above are prefixing my websites URL.

    if i input “”
The icon iteself becoming the link “MYWEBSITE.COM/

Is there a way of stopping my website URL being prefixed to the social media url?

    1. Hi Natalie, sorry I didn’t see this message earlier! You just need to add http:// on the front of your URL’s to stop this happening. For example:
